Explain how a drawing communicates manufacturing and inspection requirements that may not be obvious from the 3D model.

Record the purpose of base views, projected views, center marks, hole information, revision tables, and title-block data.

Detailed activity procedure

Create an Inspection-Ready Aerospace Component Drawing

    Open the approved CAD revision and create a new drawing from the design using the assigned standard, sheet size, units, and scale.

    Place the base view in the orientation that best defines the primary machined face.
  3. 3
    Add only the projected, section, detail, or auxiliary views required to define the geometry clearly.
  4. 4
    Add an isometric view for orientation without using it as the primary dimensioning view.
  5. 5
    Add center marks and centerlines for holes, arcs, and symmetric features.

    Identify the primary and secondary datum references used to locate the interfaces.

    Dimension overall size, thickness, hole diameters, hole locations, pocket dimensions, depths, radii, and clearances from the appropriate datums.

    Apply the teacher-provided general tolerance and specific tolerances to critical interface dimensions.

    Add material, finish or deburring note, units, scale, part name, author/team, date, drawing number, and revision.

    Create an inspection-planning table matching each critical dimension with the measurement tool and method.

    Perform a duplicate-dimension, missing-dimension, and manufacturability review.

    Exchange drawings with another team. The reviewer must determine whether the part can be manufactured and inspected without opening the CAD model.

    Resolve review comments, update the revision, and export the approved PDF using the required file name.

Required Operating Habits

  • Use only teacher-approved files, tools, stock, speeds, feeds, and procedures.
  • Preserve the last verified working file or code version.
  • Stop immediately for unexpected motion, unusual sound, vibration, loose workholding, tool damage, or an unclear condition.
  • Do not operate the CNC mill without the required certification, permission, and supervision.
  • Record failed trials, defects, and interventions honestly.
