Multiview Sketching from Interactive 3D Models

Focus question: How can you translate a three-dimensional object into accurate, aligned technical views without being given the orthographic solution?

Your Assignment

Eight Models • Four Views Each

The interactive model on this page is your only 3D reference. No printed isometric reference is provided.

For Every Model

  1. Rotate and zoom to inspect the entire model.
  2. Choose the face you believe should be the FRONT view. Select the view that communicates the shape and important features most clearly.
  3. Sketch your chosen FRONT view first using light construction lines.
  4. Project and align the TOP and RIGHT-SIDE views.
  5. Add visible/object, hidden, and center lines where appropriate.
  6. Sketch the ISOMETRIC view in the isometric-grid quadrant.
  7. Add the necessary dimensions to the orthographic views.
  8. Check that all four views describe the same object.

Drawing & Dimensioning Rules

  • Dimension the orthographic views, not the isometric sketch.
  • Place each dimension on the view where the feature is shown most clearly.
  • Avoid duplicating the same dimension in multiple views.
  • Use the Ø symbol and centerlines for circular features.
  • Keep dimensions outside the object when practical.
  • Use straight, dark final object lines after geometry is aligned.

You choose the FRONT: There is not one assigned camera face. Choose the face that best communicates the part, then keep that FRONT choice consistent when constructing the Top and Right-Side views. Be prepared to briefly justify your choice.

Interactive Reference Set

Models 1–8

Drag to rotate and scroll/pinch to zoom. Reset View returns the model to its starting camera angle, but that angle does not define the required FRONT view.

What You Submit

Completed 8-Model Multiview Drawing Set

  • One completed drawing sheet for each of the eight models.
  • Front, Top, Right-Side, and Isometric views for every model.
  • Correct view alignment and consistent feature locations.
  • Appropriate object, hidden, and center lines.
  • Complete, non-duplicated dimensions on the orthographic views.

Before submitting: Label each model sheet clearly and perform a four-view consistency check.
